Thailand
Delayed Honeymoon
Moving abroad required a lot of paperwork, especially since we decided to marry and change our last names, which required updated passports. As such, our honeymoon was pushed back to Spring Break 2017, but Thailand was well worth the wait!
Itinerary Outline
My Maps to the right includes highlight points (click upper left icon).
2 Nights - Bangkok (nonconsecutive)
3 Nights - Chiang Mai
2 Nights - Phi Phi Islands
A special thanks to our friend Carrie-Ann for hosting us in Bangkok.
BANGKOK
After a 2.5 hour taxi ride from the airport to the heart of the city, we arrive at our SF connection Carrie-Ann's place before pedaling the pavement with Follow Me Bangkok (bicycle) Tours - highly recommended! The tour included zipping through mazes of alley ways, visiting Wats, a ferry ride, and finishing up with a fish pedicure. Before leaving Thailand, we spent one more night grabbing a bite with our friend and visiting Wat Pho - home to The Reclining Buddha.
CHIANG MAI
A wonderful change from the metropolis that is Bangkok, we check into our traditional stilt bungalow. We didn't waste the nights; we strolled the Saturday night street market, ate all the amazing street food, an authentic Thai boxing experience, and a relaxing couples massage at Fah Lanna Spa. The highlight of Chiang Mai and the trip was a visit to the Elephant Nature Park. No riding or elephant tricks here, a true elephant sanctuary where visitors can feed, help heal, and even bath these amazing creatures. A wonderful experience that should not be missed.
PHI PHI ISLAND
From the mountains, we head to the islands of the south. A quick flight to Phuket, we take our luggage and zip on motorbikes to catch our ferry to Phi Phi Island. Once we arrive we have to take a long-tail boat to check into the amazing Phi Phi Long Beach Bungalows. Our only mistake wasn't relaxing enough from the views and comfort of our little slice of heaven. I won't get into the details of our rager, but it included an amateur kickboxing match against a colleague. The next day we were up early to catch island hopping boat tour including monkey beach and world-famous Maya Beach featured in the movie The Beach.
